Frequent placement of a ridge over western North America was responsible for temperatures of 1 to 4℃ (2°to 7°F) warmer than average in most areas in British Columbia and the Yukon. Most crops in southern British Columbia were well established because of spring conditions, and June heat continued good rates of growth.rnIn the prairie provinces and central Canada, the month began with a continuation of cool conditions from May. A blocking high and southerly air flow in the second week of June gave these areas summer heat and dry conditions for nearly 2 weeks and perhaps alleviated concerns about what some termed "the year without a summer." The summer weather pattern dissipated late in June with a return to cooler-than-average conditions.
