High pressure aloft was over the Alaska mainland for much of May. The northeast quarter of Alaska had above-normal precipitation, and almost all of the rest of Alaska had consistently below-normalrnprecipitation. This was especially true of southeast Alaska due to frequent offshore flow. Temperatures for the month were a little cooler than normal over the Yukon River Delta and the coast of Norton Sound. Nearly all of the rest of Alaska had a warmer-than-normal May, particularly in the Arctic, which had yet another month of decidedly above-normal temperatures and precipitation.
