All regions in Canada experienced above normal temperatures. In British Columbia, monthly means were 2 to 5℃ (4 to 8℉) warmer than average and introduced concerns about suitable conditions for the winter Olympic Games scheduled to be begin in February. A combination of warm and record daily temperatures in Vancouver and nearby mountains resulted in no snow or marginal accumulations. Vancouver recorded no snow (16 cm/6 inches is average) but 175 mm/6.9 inches of rain during the month.rnThe Prairie Provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba also were warmer than usual with monthly means of 2 to 6℃ (4 to 10℉) above average. Temperatures above the freezing mark were common on most days between mid and late January. Less than average precipitation was common in Alberta and Saskatchewan, and near average in southern Manitoba.
