March was an unsettled month over much of the state. No one flow pattern prevailed, so most places saw more variety in weather than sometimes occurs in March. Overall, this was a cool month over much of Alaska, though not dramatically so, though northwest Alaska and the North Slope were somewhat milder than normal, though again not excessively so. Precipitation across the state featured more extremes. Southeast Alaska was unusually dry, with some areas receiving less than half of normal precipitation. In contrast, much of mainland Alaska received near to above normal precipitation and snow.
