Tell us how you became interested in meteorology. I have been interested in science as long as I can remember. My mom, who worked in the medical field, instilled a love and appreciation of science in me. Later, in high school, I began to focus my interests on Earth science and, ultimately, meteorology. Growing up in Minnesota, 1 was fascinated with the immense variety of weather the state experiences-from snowstorms and bitter cold in the winter to severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in the summer, and almost everything in between. I remember when my family would be hunkered in the basement on evenings during a tornado warning, I'd be tempted to venture into the garage to peer through the window, hoping to get a glimpse of a funnel cloud illuminated during lightning strikes.
