By the time this editorial publishes, another hurricane season will be upon us, and those who reside in states often targeted by these storms are no doubt anxiously awaiting what the 2019 Atlantic season will bring. And they have reason to be concerned. The last two hurricane years have brought devastation, destruction, fatalities, and economic woe to millions. The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season brought us Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, some of the costliest storms in U.S. history. In 2018, Hurricanes Michael and Florence wreaked havoc on the southeast, marking the second devastating year in a row for Atlantic hurricanes striking the U.S. coastline. Only time will tell what the upcoming 2019 season will bring, but if recent seasons are any indication, we should prepare for the worst.
