摘要

In the two months since I last wrote an editorial for Weathenvise, it seems that the world has turned upside down. At the time of this writing, countries around the globe have their citizens on lockdown as healthcare workers and government officials seek to mitigate the effects of coronavirus. Millions have been infected and thousands have died. Schools are closed, jobs and paychecks have disappeared. The financial and economic repercussions will be felt for a long time to come. Right now it feels like there is no end in sight, with a vaccine not expected for up to two years. Maybe by the time this issue publishes we will have more answers and a better picture of a way forward. Schools that have been shuttered since mid-March might be looking toward reopening in a few weeks. Businesses will be back and rebounding. People will be less wary and more confident navigating a brave new world of social distancing as the new normal. That is the hopeful view-that we can find a new, changed, but safe, normal.
