At WEFTEC'05, Smith & Loveless will introduce a new Flow Control Baffle for its Pista~® Grit Removal System. This is the fifth patented improvement to the system in the last decade-plus. This new feature, successfully tested in the field, offers engineering benefits and cost saving considerations for end-users. Since the introduction of the original Pista in the early 1970s, the prevailing grit removal system in the U.S. is the circular or generically dubbed "vortex" grit chamber. While some sloped-bottom units are considered "vortex" because of their circular configuration, they often rely on particle settling rather than forced hydraulic movement.
