Prospects for the pennines Pennine Prospects, the partnership regeneration company for the South Pennines, held a one-day conference on 14th September at Todmorden Town Hall, discussing what role the region's canals should play in rural regeneration and development in Lancashire and Yorkshire.
In a packed hall the speakers, including BW chairman Tony Hales and Roger Hanbury, Chief Executive of The Waterways Trust, all put forward their own visions for the future of the northern waterways. But the event also highlighted the numerous projects already accomplished or under way through the Pennine Prospects 'Leader' programme of community-led rural development, such as the restoration of the Rochdale Canal towpath from Littleborough to Summit and the issues of settling water supplies with reservoir owners and fellow-partners United Utilities.
