Local residents and boaters took advantage of the CRT open day at Bedford Street Staircase on Saturday 8th December, and descended into the drained top chamber. The two lock staircase is on the Caldon Canal, close to Etruria Junction in Stoke-on-Trent. Visitors had to don hard hats before walking down the scaffolding staircase to the bottom of the lock chamber. CRT personnel showed the carpentry works that had been carried out to improve the sealing of the intermediate gates - always a problem on staircase locks.
