An emergency stoppage was called on the Liverpool Link at Stanley Docks on 10th April, when a building contractor was found to be working precariously on rubble over the Great Howard Street Bridge. Photographs released with the stoppage notice by CRT provoked astonishment from the Chester & Merseyside branch of the IWA. Their representative, Mike Carter, called on CRT to report the contractor to the Health & Safety Executive. "The photos supplied show clearly that the way the works have been carried out present a threat to life for both boaters and the men working on site," he told WW. "The contractor responsible must be held directly responsible and compensation sought."
