THE AURORA ESTATE - YARRA VALLEY WATER'S APPROACH

Aurora is a 8500 lot (668 ha) development based on sustainability principles that is located in the suburb of Epping North, approximately 20km north of the Melbourne Central Business District. The developer is Victorian Urban Development Authority (Vie Urban). Construction of roads and services commenced in February 2004, with the house construction starting in July 2004 and the first homes being occupied in early 2005. It is expected that the development will take 15 years to be fully developed. The developer, Vic Urban, has endeavoured to include sustainability principles in all decision making to achieve the highest possible level of sustainability that will pave the way and set benchmarks for other developments. The sustainability approach will cover the social aspects, energy, transport, natural habitat and construction materials in an integrated way, with the water and wastewater cycle being only a part of the vision.
