TWELVE GOOD YEARS WITH THE CRC FOR FRESHWATER ECOLOGY

Writing in Water, December 2002, I described how the CRC for Freshwater Ecology had set out in 1993, under the leadership of Professor Peter Cullen, my predecessor, to help improve the health of Australia's inland waters, particularly rivers and wetlands. The CRC was one of the earliest cooperative research centres to be formed, and by June 2005 it had completed two six-year terms, with Peter at the helm for nine of those 12 years. Now, as at September 2005, the CRC for Freshwater Ecology has become part of a new cooperative research centre - the eWater CRC - and has ceased operations under its former name. As many readers will know, the eWater CRC consists of a new combination of participant organisations. It focuses on producing and supporting integrated management options for water systems in Australia and overseas. You will be able to read more about the eWater CRC in the December issue of Water.
