PROCESS STABILITY OF AN ADD-ON MEMBRANE BIOREACTOR

摘要

Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology is a potential alternative for conventional post biological treatment and it could make decentralised sewage treatment for urban reuse more technically and economically viable. This paper describes three months demonstration of a pilot membrane operating system added on to the biological process at the Rouse Hill recycled water plant of Sydney Water Corporation to simulate a membrane bioreactor process. Over the three month period the Memcor technology was able to achieve stable performance under a range of conditions including constant flow, diurnal flow variation, peak flow, low dissolved oxygen concentration, and high mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration. The simulated MBR treated water was comparable to the plant's current reclaimed water when assessed by physical and microbial parameters and met the NSW Guidelines for the Urban and Residential Use of Reclaimed Water after chlorination. Although a chemical clean was not necessary during the course of the trial, one was done at the end of the three month period and demonstrated full recovery of membrane performance.
