摘要

Environmental Water Management is an emerging practice in Australia. Environmental Water Managers are responsible for environmental surface water or groundwater provision in order to provide adequate water to sustain the environment (environmental flows) and maintain the health of rivers and water resources, and the ecosystems and industries that depend on them. The National Water Commission's (NWC) blueprint for water reform, the National Water Initiative (NWI) envisaged skilled environmental water managers with authority and resources accountable for managing environmental water. In the 2007 and 2009 biennial assessment of progress under the NWI, it was found that Environmental Water Managers often had too little authority, recognition and resources and were often working in isolation with few opportunities to transfer knowledge and share experiences.
