It is not until you travel through country areas that you really realise the impact that water has on the Australian landscape. I recently spent a week in Denmark, a four-and-a-half hour drive south of Perth. On the way down my husband and I travelled through parts of the wheat belt region of WA. Western Australia has had a very dry year and it really hit home driving down Albany Highway. Fields that would normally be green at this time of the year already looked liked they had gone through a Western Australian summer.
