Watching the aftermath of the Pakistan floods unfold over the last few months you realise how fortunate we really are here in Australia. We can trust that when we turn on the tap to get a glass of water, that it is safe to drink. A lot of the time this process is pretty straight forward, the water is treated and disinfected and sent down the pipe for you to drink. However there can and will be occasions when things go wrong.rnMost of the time when water quality incidents happen you and I would never know as they are efficiently dealt with by those responsible for looking after our drinking water. However there are situations when water quality management becomes more of a challenge, especially in situations where there has been a significant natural or man-made disaster, such as the Pakistan floods and the Victorian bushfires. In these cases various agencies needed to pull together to determine the best strategies for protecting and maintaining water quality.
