摘要

Last month the Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water, Penny Wong, made eight separate 'good news' announcements in just five days during her tour of communities in the Murray-Darling Basin. Funding of over $200 million was announced, along with plans to upgrade irrigation infrastructure. Could it be that a federal election announcement is just around the corner?rnSo will water issues feature heavily in the next federal election battle? If so, what are those issues likely to be?rnThe main political parties have already drawn their battlelines over the issue of the Murray-Darling Basin. In fact, both Penny Wong and Barnaby Joyce have recently undertaken tours of the Murray-Darling, meeting local communities and outlining their plans to secure the future of the Basin. This suggests the Murray-Darling will be a key issue for both political parties in the run up to the election.
