摘要

Water quality monitoring has always been limited by the logistics and cost of collecting and analysing grab samples. On line measurements were also limited to a few relatively basic parameters. This paper focuses on new technology now proving itself as a reliable source of a very large amount of relevant data for all forms of water management, both in rivers and reservoirs.rnA high quality field version of the online UV/Vis full spectrum spectrophotometer coupled with a modern computer and maths processing has been used in a number of field applications in New Zealand and AustraliarnThis paper provides case studies to introduce the potential of such data to answer existing queries, highlight unrecognised issues and indicate a pathway for researchers and managers in the water industry.
