Both plugflow and fully-mixed BNR treatment plants have their advantages. MARINUS NIELSEN looks at a new process that combines the best of both. There are several designs for modern biological nutrient removal (BNR) treatment plants. They all have different configurations, focusing on nutrient removal based on a number of reactors. However, there are generally only two main flow schemes - either plugflow or fully mixed reactors or some combination of both. The Dynamic Plugflow (DP) process, developed by WWC, is unique in that it takes the best features of both the plugflow and fully mixed reactors, resulting in a powerful, robust and highly efficient process. It combines the latest wastewater process experiences, cutting-edge control technology and advanced knowledge of microbial populations.
