Energy and water: dynamic links and challenges

Dr Karen Hussey, Co-Chair of the COST workshop and from the Australian National University, bluntly assesses the challenges:'The evidence of a changing climate is driving extensive and fast policy reform in the energy and climate sectors but policy-makers are ill-equipped to make informed decisions based on empirical research and a comprehensive risk assessment. At the heart of the problem is a lack of policy integration: the energy, water and more recently 'climate' sectors are highly developed within themselves but only limited effort is made to account for, and manage, the extensive links between them.While these case studies have illustrated many conflicts, they also highlight many win-win opportunities.'
