The water message: mitigate

The water sector is adding its voice to the build-up to the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen this December. Delegates to the Stockholm Water Week, for example, set out clearly why water should be central to discussions (see News p6). IWA too will be contributing, particularly through a message to be carried forward from its Water and Energy conference taking place in October, also in Copenhagen.rnThe IWA conference will highlight the important linkages between water and energy, with implications for both the mitigation and adaptation dimensions of climate change. Such linkages, described in our feature on p60, include the implications for water of the additional fuel needs of using carbon capture in power generation and the significant contribution of domestic water heating to overall carbon emissions.
