Montreal's metering troubles

As part of its overhaul of its water infrastructure, the city also has plans to install water meters for industries, businesses and institutions to enable water costs to be allocated more equitably between the residential and commercial sectors. The plan is to install around 23,000 of these meters, with the programme beginning this year and continuing for the next five years. There is a real need for improvements in overall water efficiency-water losses are as much as 40% in some parts of the city.
