An interactive online database and map has been launched to illustrate the impact of over 140 large dams in various stages of planning in the Amazon Basin.The International Rivers website document the dams' locations and claimed impacts. 'We hope the information in this online resource will be of great interest for governments, researchers, educators and non governmental organizations,' said Federico Gonzalez Brizzio, communications coordinator for Fundacion PROTEGER, which was in charge of designing the database.
