The OIL SANDS DEVELOPERS GROUP is a non-profit association which represents oil sands operators and developers working on the Athabasca oil sands deposit in northern Alberta, Canada. A number of new processesrnundergoing testing or in development are focused on reducing or eliminating the need for water as part of the extraction process, such as solvent extraction, fireflood and electrothermal stripping. An in-stream flow needs-based water management system has also been put in place for the Athabasca River, which runs through the oil sands region.
