NoMix: A new approach to urban water management

The Novaquatis project is a six-year transdisciplinary research study by Eawag into urine source separation as a means of improving water pollution control by reducing inputs of nutrients and micropollutants and closing nutrient cycles. There are nine work packages which address the various stages of the nutrient cycle:rnNova 1: Acceptance. High levels of public approval found after attitudes of 1750 people were assessed following trials of NoMix toilets in private dwellings and public buildings. Nova 2: Sanitary technology. The industry is confident that identified problems associated with precipitation and scaling can be solved. It is interested in developing and marketing good quality NoMix toilets if water professionals become engaged and identify the bulk markets that will justify development costs.
