The first full UN-Water Global Annual Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-water (GLAAS) is a welcome and valuable addition to the documentation on the water sector. It brings together existing reporting on water supply and sanitation coverage and on water sector official development assistance with new survey data on investment and progress in the sector. These are combined to provide a new perspective on just how the world is doing with achieving the Millennium Development Goals for drinking water and sanitation.
