Global biodiversity meeting advances work to protect ecosystems

Around 18,000 representatives of the 193 stakeholder governments met in Nagoya, Japan, at the end of October to agree an ambitious global action plan to preserve threatened species and conserve habitats, including marine, coastal and freshwaters. The meeting achieved its three interlinked goals: the participants adopted a new ten-year strategic plan to guide international and national efforts to save biodiversity through enhanced action to meet the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
