New sustainable urban drainage approach for England

Defra, the UK department for environment, food and rural affairs, is consulting on a proposed new approach to sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) in England that includes strongly promoting the use of these systems in new developments. The Defra consultation document sets out an alternative approach to that found in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, which drew concerns from stakeholders. The new approach aims to deliver effective SUDS that will be maintained for the lifetime of the developments they serve.
