Study predicts severe decline in Sierra Nevada runoff

Scientists at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and UC Merced (UCM) have published a study that warns freshwater runoff from the Sierra Nevada mountains may fall more than 25% by 2100 due to warming on the high slopes. Faster plant growth at higher elevations due to the warmer temperatures would trigger more water absorption and evaporation, the scientists found, generating the projected declines.
