Lake Baikal suffering from pollution by dumped waste

Ecologists have warned in a report that lake Baikal, the world's oldest and deepest freshwater body, is being turned into a swamp by thousands of tons of waste dumped from local tourist resorts and vessels. Russia is reported to have launched a multi-million dollar plan to rescue the UNESCO-protected lake, located in Siberia. The ecologists also highlighted an increasing number of alien water plant species that are causing waterlogging.
