Defining access to improved water sources

Access to improved water sources and sanitation is a major developmental challenge in many developing countries, with the vast majority of those lacking access living in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Inadequate water services contribute to the health burden suffered by countries such as Ghana, and unprecedented urban growth is contributing to the problem of limited and inadequate access to water supplies.
