NGWA Effort Saves Industry Millions Annually in Federal Taxes

April brings hints of warmer weather and blos-soming flowers ahead. However, April also brings not so pleasant thoughts of taxes due and owed to the government. But this spring brings the ground water industry good news on the tax front. President George W. Bush signed NGWA-supported legislation, H.R. 4520, providing mobile machinery owners statutory relief from certain federal excise taxes. The new law, Public Law 108-357, signed October 22, 2004, could potentially save water well drilling rig owners millions of dollars annually in retail sales, tire, use, and fuel taxes.
