FMCSA Increases Motor Carrier Civil Penalties for Violating Regulations

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a final rule increasing most of its motor carrier civil penalties for violations of federal regulations. In an April 3 Federal Register announcement, the agency said several laws require the periodic adjustments based on cost-of-living increases that caused the penalty in some cases to increase from 30% to nearly 50%. The new penalties go into effect 60 days after the announcement.
