GOING GLASS

This well rehabilitation effort resulted from a failure to take the groundwater chemistry into account when the original well was designed. Because of this oversight, a well that should have seen more than 20 years of service had to be either replaced or rehabilitated after only seven years of use due to corrosion. The use of glass beads as a filter medium is not yet widespread in the United States, but the combination of rapid installation, reduced development time, and the high specific capacity of the rehabilitated well are solid confirmation the proper product was selected. Total costs for this rehabilitation were about 20% of the cost of a new well, representing a savings of several thousand dollars.
