During the production of drinking water from bromide containing water bromate may be formed by ozonation in concentrations up to 15-25 μg/l at the highest water temperature. This bromate concentration can be restricted by bromide removal prior to ozonation. In an integrated treatment process reverse osmosis offers interesting possibilities. Other treatment options are the combined use of ozone and hydrogen peroxide (especially for pesticide degradation) and the combined use of ozone and GAC filtration. In this stage no processes for bromate removal are operational. GAC filtration is effective at extremely low pH only. Interesting options are anaerobic processes (artificial recharge) and once again reverse osmosis.
