The true costs of water includes far more than the initial charge for water supply. In industrial applications the cost of water can include water treatment, pumping, maintenance, effluent discharge and treatment, capital depreciation and loss of raw materials or product in the effluent stream. Envirowise has proven that by using water efficiently and minimising wastage businesses can cut costs and gain a competitive edge. Envirowise estimates that sites, which have not previously examined their water consumption, can usually achieve around 20 percent savings on water and effluent bills immediately, by implementing simple procedures at little or no cost. These savings can exceed 40 percent when more structured and long-term water savings projects are implemented.
