Funding Irrigation Modernization and Investing in Rural Communities

Extended droughts in California and Texas, the lead crisis in Flint, Michigan, and the spillway failure at the Oroville Dam have all recently focused national attention on water infrastructure. Engineers know the nation's drinking water and wastewater infrastructure requires huge capital investment. Too often the public, city leaders, and legislators don't realize how important these water systems are to our economy and public health. The infrastructure that delivers water to farms to grow our food is no exception. Modernizing this aging infrastructure can improve water supplies for farms, restore stream flow to rivers and promote renewable energy development in rural areas.
