Water Planning in Arizona: A Focus on Groundwater and Drought

As with every arid state, water is one of the most vital natural resources in Arizona and is directly related to the health and strength of our communities and economy. Arizona leaders have recognized this for decades and have been working fiercely since statehood to protect and enhance Arizona's water supplies. Some noteworthy water planning efforts and successes that Arizonans take pride in are: robust groundwater management in the most populous parts of the state; water management efforts in rural, less populated areas; statewide drought planning; and ongoing drought contingency planning efforts associated with the Colorado River.
