Herbert Scholarship Award Recipients for 2018-2019 Announced

As an undergraduate student at TTU, John focused on water resources and related engineering principles for his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Through his graduate coursework, he has delved deeper into specific topics with a continued emphasis on applications to water resources, including hydraulic channel design, groundwater resource management, coastal hydrodynamics, and stormwater management principles. The work John completed as an undergraduate at TTU, conceptualizing and demonstrating a framework to determine the effects of coastal flooding on infrastructure using a combination of the ADvanced-CIRCulation model and the Hydrologic Engineering Center's Flood Impact Analysis tool was recognized by both TTU and the American Society of Civil Engineers Environmental and Water Resources Institute through a TTU Bachelors of Science Best Paper Award and third place in the EWRI Undergraduate Technical Paper Competition. He has extended this experience into an ADCIRC modeling project for the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, which he presented at the 2017 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting. He has also been selected as a Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. Summer Institute Fellow.
