EPA, States Plan Discussions To Address Concerns Over Key Water Rules

State regulator groups and EPA water officials are planning a series of meetings to address states' concerns with several key agency rules, including a requirement that most water discharge data be submitted electronically, an update to the agency's rule governing water quality standards and a rule clarifying the reach of the Clean Water Act (CWA). The regulators agreed to further discussions during a Jan. 22 meeting between EPA water office officials and representatives from several state groups. The timeframe for the discussions is unclear, though EPA's acting water chief Nancy Stoner had scheduled a Feb. 7 meeting with state associations focused on the CWA jurisdiction rule.
