EPA Urged To Issue Guide Addressing Selenium Water Criteria Concerns

Electric power, homebuilding and other industry groups are urging EPA to issue guidance that addresses a host of concerns on implementing the agency's draft water quality criteria for protecting aquatic life from discharges of selenium, including treatment of natural background selenium levels and how to conduct monitoring. EPA has previously signaled its intent to craft technical support documents that will resolve questions raised in previous comments filed on its draft criteria. But the industry groups' concerns - detailed in newly filed comments -outline several new areas of uncertainty about the criteria that they want the agency to address in the eventual guidance.
