EPA Withdraws From MOU Impeding IG 'Access' But Defers On New Pact

EPA has formally withdrawn from a contested memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) that the agency's Inspector General (IG) said impeded the IG's ability to investigate national security issues at the agency, though EPA is yet to grant the IG's request to craft a new MOU to resolve the dispute. The MOU, signed in mid-2012 by top officials at the FBI's Office of Homeland Security and EPA's Office of Homeland Security (OHS), designated the offices as the liaisons within both agencies on counterintelligence referrals, information sharing, and related matters. The MOU was deemed in effect for five years according to a copy of the agreement obtained by Inside EPA through a recent Freedom of Information Act request.
