Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) is vowing to use his chairmanship of the Environment & Public Works Committee (EPW) to advance bills blocking EPA's power plant climate rules and Clean Water Act (CWA) jurisdiction rule, but also plans to push for toxics law reform that may potentially give the agency some new regulatory powers. At a Jan. 7 roundtable with reporters detailing his agenda in his return to the top slot on EPW, Inhofe promised aggressive oversight of a host of agency policies that he fears pose major economic harms. In addition to the rule to define the CWA and the utility climate existing source performance standards and (ESPS) and new source performance standards (NSPS), he also faulted the agency's proposal to tighten its ozone ambient air standards. For the regulations he opposes including the climate and water policies, Inhofe said he hopes to pursue votes under the Congressional Review Act (CRA), which allows lawmakers to undo final agency regulations.
