EPA Guide Outlines Steps For Incorporating Equity Into Regulatory Analysis

EPA has finalized technical guidance that outlines the steps agency officials should follow for incorporating environmental justice (EJ) into its regulatory analyses, including an initial screening analysis for the extent to which its air, waste, water and other rules might adversely impact low-income or minority populations. The technical guide released June 7 explains that EPA regulatory analysts should begin with a "screening analysis to identify the extent to which a regulatory action may raise potential EJ concerns that need further evaluation, and what level of analysis is feasible and appropriate."
