EPA Reports State Progress In Hypoxia Task Force Data Collection Effort

Several states are making progress toward fully tracking their efforts to reduce nutrient discharges in the Gulf of Mexico to remedy the region's hypoxic "dead zone," according to a progress report on an EPA-led task force's efforts. Among the findings of the February 2016 "Report On Point Source Progress In Hypoxia Task Force States," is that 57 percent of permits for major sewage treatment plants include monitoring requirements for both nitrogen and phosphorus, and 74 percent of permits for major sewage treatment plants include monitoring reuqirements for at least one nitrogen or phosphorus parameter.
