WEFTEC~® is huge. But it's easy to overlook its complexity. The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) begins planning and preparation years in advance - and it really ramps up about 6 months before the event. The final document that lists all of the convention center events by time and place and lists all of the necessary equipment, furniture, food orders, and staffing is called the "event resume." This year it is more than 600 pages long. WEF's event planners take great pains to ensure that everything is given thorough consideration and no detail is left up to chance . (Get a sampling of what's planned beginning on p. 37.) And yet, WEFTEC planning pales in comparison to what utilities and cities must do to prepare for natural disasters.
