Finding the Water Bears' Line

A research group from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) has published a study on its discovery about tardigrades, popularly known as water bears. Temperature matters, the group says. "We know about the endurance tardigrades have to stressful conditions," said Ricardo Neves, one of the study authors. "But there was, almost, an urban myth that they could survive even extremely high temperatures or a cataclysmic event - essentially, that they were indestructible." Neves and the other researchers set out to build on past research which had exposed tardigrades to high temperatures for short periods - typically around 30 minutes or less.
