Today's divided and combative atmosphere encourages us to pick a side, dig in, and hurl accusations and insults at the people we have decided are against us. Them is becoming even more of a dirty word. If we listen to cable news channels, many of our politicians, and even some of our co-workers and family, we hear that there is "right" and "wrong" and no opportunity to consider other options. These observations relate mostly to politics, but this kind of adversarial thinking is beginning to creep into other areas of our lives.
