Towards sustainable urban water systems and services: how to measure progress - the case of Oslo, Norway

Oslo city's water resources portfolio consists of 40 lakes, which are drained by eight watercourses that flow into the Oslo fjord. Setting the city's water sector on the path of sustainability will facilitate greater adhesion of urban water management to the city's planning and an integrated assessment of the city's sustainability. Oslo Water and Sewerage Works is both the responsible body and the provider of the water and wastewater services. Jadranka Milina, 0ivind Ryenbakken, Erland Eggen, Rashid Elmi and Per Kristiansen discuss how moving along the path towards sustainability poses new challenges and demands for the utility.
